From Running USA QUANTICO, Va.– Lieutenant Commander Michael Krisman of the U.S. Navy trotted his way to victory at the Turkey Trot

From Running USA

QUANTICO, Va.– Lieutenant Commander Michael Krisman of the U.S. Navy trotted his way to victory at the Turkey Trot 10K on Saturday, Nov. 17, the final race in the 2012 MCM Event Series organized by the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM). LCDR Krisman, 36, a resident of Montclair, Va., completed the course in 35 minutes, 41 seconds to claim the first place finish and a 20 lb. turkey in his MCM event debut.

“I just arrived in the area this summer and had never run any of these (MCM) races before,” says LCDR Krisman. “It was a lot harder than I thought, but it was a good course and well laid-out. Those hills were just tough at mile five.”

The women’s field was led by Vicky Jasparro, 39, of Fredericksburg, Va. Jasparro finished the 6.2-mile course in 39:22, setting a new Turkey Trot 10K record for the women’s division. The previous record of 39:38 was set at the first MCM-organized Turkey Trot 10K held in 2008.

“It was a beautiful day for running,” says Jasparro. “I’m a competitive runner, and parts of this course were challenging. I really enjoyed it.”

Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Hetherington, USMC (ret.), 45, of Vienna, Va., received the male Masters Award, for runners age 40 and above, finishing in 36:32. LtCol Hetherington has achieved numerous top finishes in previous MCM events and is a member of the MCM Hall of Fame. Springfield, Va. runner Yuko Whitestone, 40, led the women in the Masters category finishing the Turkey Trot in 43:16. Whitestone also achieved finishes at the top of the leader board in the Irish Sprint 10K and Gender Defender 5K, earlier races in the 2012 MCM Event Series.

Overall, Masters and first place age award winners were presented with frozen turkeys, while runners up in age categories took home pumpkin pies from Bob Evans, all in keeping with the festive holiday theme. Additionally, 16 individuals who have achieved “perfect attendance” by participating in all MCM Event Series races, the Historic Half marathon and the MCM in 2012 were recognized at the award ceremony.

Prior to the Turkey Trot 10K start, nearly 150 children ages nine and under ran the Turkey Trot Kids Mile, a just-for-fun one mile out-and-back run on the streets surrounding Lejeune Hall. Spectators and finishers alike enjoyed music, giveaways from event sponsors and a live petting zoo.

Registration is now open for the 22nd annual Thundercloud Subs Turkey Trot. As always, the ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot will be on Thanksgiving Day, which falls on November 22. The Austin tradition has a 5-mile run, 1-mile walk and Stepping Stone School Kids’ K, and also features a first ever car raffle. 100 percent of the event’s proceeds benefit Caritas of Austin, a local non-profit organization that serves those suffering from poverty in the Austin community.

This year, Thundercloud Subs is proud to partner with Howdy Honda to help grow their contribution to Caritas of Austin. In addition to the popular Mellow Johnny’s bike packages, this year’s raffle participants are also entered to win a redesigned 2013 Honda Accord, courtesy of Howdy Honda. Second and third prize winners will enjoy a prize package worth $1,250 for bikes, gear, clothing or accessories from Mellow Johnny’s Bike Shop.

“We would like to thank Howdy Honda for their generous donation to this year’s Turkey Trot Raffle,” shares Mike Haggerty, co-owner of ThunderCloud Subs. “As all ticket sales go directly to Caritas of Austin, we are thrilled to partner with Howdy Honda and Mellow Johnny’s to increase the community impact this annual raffle provides.”

Raffle tickets are $25 and can be purchased online either with or separate from registration. The winner doesn’t need to be present at the ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot to win, and winners will be announced on Wednesday, November 28 after the winning tickets are drawn at 12:30 p.m. at Howdy Honda.

“We hope the public is as excited about this grand prize as we are,” states Cliff Collier, General Manager of Howdy Honda. “We wanted a special way to launch the release of the 2013 Honda Accord, and donating to the Turkey Trot Raffle allows us to give back to the community that supports our dealership year after year.”

Since 1990, the ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot has raised over $1.5 million for Caritas of Austin, and this year 20,000 participants are expected at the Long Center for the Performing Arts on Thanksgiving Day. Registration for the 5-mile run is $20 for untimed runners and $25 for timed runners, with the 5-mile option being the only distance where participants can choose to be timed. The 1-mile walk is $18 and the Stepping Stone School Kids’ K is $8. Registration includes race entry, t-shirt and race packet, and prices will begin to increase in late October. Visit http://thundercloud.com/index.php/trot for more information and to register for this Thanksgiving tradition.

The Capital One Bank Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot is the largest Thanksgiving Day event of its kind in the country. Starting from humble beginnings 45 years ago at White Rock Lake, it has grown into the undisputed “Way to Begin Thanksgiving Day” for thousands of locals as well as those who travel to share in our great event. The Trot tradition has now extended through generations of participants who…celebrate the holiday with grandparents, relatives, friends and their youngest who we look to see with their own families in the years ahead. Last year more than 37,000 runners and walkers join the fun Thanksgiving Day, even setting a Guinness World Record of the most people dressed as turkeys!

The original Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot was held at the Old Fairgrounds back in the early 1940s, but the long string of consecutive years began with the eight mile race back in 1968.The unique eight mile distance was created when the one hundred and seven participants were instructed to run along the shores of White Rock Lake “to the big oak tree and back”. By 1979, the race had become so popular …that it was moved to the downtown area to accommodate more runners and to showcase “Big D”. The 3 mile Fun Run/Walk was added in 1984 to accommodate the increased participation of individuals and families. In 2009 the distance was changed to 5K and the course was certified.

The Capital One Bank Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot is a YMCA tradition that draws people from all over the country each year. Even if you’re not a runner or walker, there are fun activities for the whole family to enjoy: clowns, pony rides, bounce houses, live musical entertainment and much more!

The Caramel Candy cocktail centers on caramel vodka, and blends it with cream, vanilla and a little cognac for added mystique. It’s very sweet and delicious, thanks to the vanilla liqueur and the sugar on the rim. At first, it hits you with the cognac, but you finish on the burnt vanilla flavor, and that’s what lingers.

Caramel Candy {MixThatDrink Original}

1/2 ounce cognac

3/4 ounce vanilla liqueur

3/4 ounce caramel vodka

1/2 ounce half-n-half

Sugar (for the rim of the glass)

Rim a cocktail glass with sugar.
